SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION GIVEN AT MISSOURI ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT FINANCIAL AID PERSONNEL MEETING YESTERDAY
DUAL CREDIT/DUAL ENROLLMENT SCHOLARSHIP
High school students may be eligible to receive a scholarship that covers the tuition and fees for their dual credit or dual enrollment courses. To qualify, students must demonstrate financial need and be taking dual credit or dual enrollment courses from a Missouri college or university in addition to meeting the program’s eligibility criteria. The application is available through the State Financial Aid Portal. Applications received after October 1 and on or before December 1 will be considered based on funding availability. BRIGHT FLIGHT PROGRAM
To be eligible, you must be a Missouri resident and have a composite ACT or SAT score within the top five percent of all Missouri test takers.Enroll as a first-time, full-time student at a participating Missouri school. There is no Bright Flight application to complete. The MDHEWD will receive your ACT or SAT composite score from your ACT or SAT assessment record. CAPE FIRE DEPARTMENT HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department is hosting the 5th Annual CGFD High School Academy on Friday October 5th, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. If your student may be interested in pursuing a career in firefighting or may just want to learn what firefighters do day in and day out, please encourage them to sign up and find out. Seating is limited to 32 students. Lunch will be provided. If your student would like to participate, please send an email including their name, email address, and phone number to ebennett@cityofcapegirardeau.org so they can provide more details about the day.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council will be hosting a Costume Drive from September 29th to October 10th. If you or anyone in your household has any costumes or dress-up clothes that you are willing to donate, please place them in the box located across from Mrs. Seyer's door.
The Student Council will be hosting Haunted Hall on October 30th.
NHS
National Honor Society invitations have been handed out. If you intend to join the club, please pay your dues to Mrs. Seyer by October 7th.
FCA
Alzheimer's Walk is Saturday, Oct.11. Permission Forms are outside Mrs. Nash's door on the bench. Don't forget to register for the walk online (see form for info).
FCA Fields of Faith is Wednesday evening, Oct. 15. Permission Forms are outside Mrs. Nash's door on the bench. Turn them in ASAP!
VOICE OF DEMOCRACY
The Voice of Democracy Program is open to grades 9-12. To enter, you must record your original 3-5-minute audio essay on a flash drive and submit the recording, typed essay, and completed entry form to the VFW by October 31. The grand prize at the national level is $35,000 with a possible monetary prize at the local level. For additional information, please ask the counselor.
PATRIOT'S PEN
The Patriot's Pen Program is open to grades 6-8. To enter, you must submit a typed essay and completed entry form to the VFW by October 31. The first-place national award is $5,000 with a possible monetary prize at the local level. For additional information, please ask the counselor.
VFW NATIONAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION TEACHER AWARD
Recognize teachers who care about America. All current certified/licensed teachers in grades K-12 are eligible. To nominate a teacher, you must submit the nomination form, a resume for the teacher, and a head-and-shoulder photo to the local VFW by October 31. For more information, please ask the counselor.
BUILD MY FUTURE
We will be taking interested 10-12 graders to Build My Future on Tuesday, October 7th. We will leave school around 8:30, travel to Poplar Bluff, and return around 2:00. Students who attend will need to wear long pants, closed toed shoes, safety glasses, and an event T-shirt. Both the safety glasses and T-shirt will be provided when we arrive. This event gives students a chance to explore real-world careers in the construction industry. If your student is interested in attending, please have them sign up by September 30. Permission slips with additional information will be sent home next week.
SENIORS
Senior picture day is Thursday, October 16th. CTC is out this day. All seniors please arrive by 8:00am. After yearbook pictures at school, a group picture will be taken at the Bollinger Mill. It was decided by the majority to go to Watami for lunch after.
SEMO SHOW ME DAY
SEMO has Show Me Day from 9:30-2:00pm on Saturday, October 11. Show Me Day is made for all students to explore SEMO. To attend please register at: https://visit.semoadmissions.org/event/semo.events

CTC is in session on October 3rd and October 31st. The bus will run as usual. You are expected to attend.
CTC is not in session on October 16th, 17th & 20th for fall break. Seniors, please check in to Delta by 8:00am on Thursday, October 16th. Your senior pictures will begin about 8. Please sign in by 11:00 on the 17th & 20th.
